PATTERSON HIGH COURT NOMINATION WINS SENATE JUDICIARY PANEL'S APPROVAL

Anne Patterson wins approval of Senate Judiciary Committe for NJ Supreme Court vacancy

The N.J. Law Journal reports:

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday approved of the nomination of Republican Anne Patterson, of Morristown’s Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland & Perretti, to be a justice of the state Supreme Court.

The committee, after a collegial hearing that lasted about 2 ½ hours, passed the nomination by a vote of 12 to 1, with Sen. Raymond Lesniak, D-Union, casting the sole negative vote. Lesniak had promised to vote against the confirmation, citing the fact that the nomination would leave the Court with no minority members.

If confirmed by the Senate, Patterson will fill the seat to be vacated by another Republican, Justice Roberto Rivera-Soto, whose term ends on Aug. 31 and who is not seeking tenure. The next Senate voting session is tentatively scheduled for June 9.
